Childhood and Early Beginnings
Mariska Veres was born in The Hague, the Netherlands, to a Hungarian Gypsy violinist father and a French-Russian mother of German heritage.
From an early age, she sang in the Gypsy ensemble where her father worked, accompanied by her sister Ilonka on piano.
Rising Career and the Birth of Shocking Blue
In 1964, Veres embarked on her professional singing career with the Hague-based beat group Les Mystères.
After a series of performances and a released single, she joined the Blue Fighters and later Danny & Favourites. In 1967, she recorded two solo singles before joining the Bumble Bees.
